Preparing for the Colder Months Ahead

As the colder weather approaches, we recommend taking a few simple steps to help protect your holiday home over the winter period and prevent damp, frost damage and unnecessary issues while your holiday home is unoccupied.

Top Winter Preparation Tips:

Place a Bowl of Salt in Each Room

Salt can help absorb moisture from the air and reduce condensation and dampness during the colder months.

Stand Sofa Cushions Upright

Standing cushions on edge allows air to circulate around them, helping to prevent damp spots and mildew.

Empty Fridges and Freezers

Please remove all food items and leave appliances clean.

During periods when the park is closed, we may need to carry out essential electrical maintenance works which could require power interruptions.

Arrange a Winter Drain Down

To help protect your holiday home from frost damage and frozen pipes, we recommend arranging a winter drain down before the colder weather arrives.

A drain down removes water from the holiday home's plumbing system, helping to reduce the risk of pipes freezing and bursting during periods of low temperatures.

If you would like to arrange a drain down for your holiday home, please complete our Ambassadors Drain Down Form here.

Turn Off Your Water Supply

If you are not arranging a drain down, please turn off the water supply to your holiday home.

Open a tap briefly to help release pressure from the system.

Isolating the water supply can help reduce the risk of frozen pipes and potential water damage during cold weather. Although we would always recommend considering a drain down.

Open Internal Cupboard Doors

This helps warmer air circulate around pipework, reducing the risk of freezing.

Remove Valuable or Perishable Items

Take home any items that could be affected by low temperatures or prolonged periods of non-use.

Turn Off Outside Lights

Please turn off all outside lights, including mains-fed fairy lights, to help save electricity.

Looking After Your Holiday Home

Taking a little time to prepare your holiday home now can help avoid costly repairs and ensure it is ready for you to enjoy when you return.
