Top things to do around Oakdene and Forest Edge Park in winter

As we move into the colder months and the ‘C’ word starts to quickly creep up on us, it’s a lovely opportunity to start festivities early.

Dorset and the New Forest offer a range of events and activities that will get you in the spirit whilst enjoying the glorious landscapes that the area has to offer. Here at Shorefield we also have a number of fun experiences on park to get you in the mood.

Here we share our top tips to enjoy winter with loved ones at Oakdene Forest Park and Forest Edge Park.

Cosy accommodation:

There are a range of accommodation options at Shorefield for those looking to hunker down and stay toasty warm over the winter months. The Shrubbery is perfect for a romantic couples break. This beautiful woodland retreat boasts a feature fireplace within the stylish 'snug' living area, ideal for keeping cosy over an evening of board games or a festive film.

Alternatively, for bigger groups there’s The Burrow, a spacious three bedroom house found at Forest Edge Park in St Leonards, that can sleep up to six. With a warming fireplace and private hot tub, this is the perfect place to stay with family or a group of friends for a UK winter getaway, complete with a dining space ready and waiting to host hearty group dinners. All accommodation is pet-friendly so there’s no need to leave your furry friend behind.

Winter walks:

Oakdene and Forest Edge are also home to some of the best walks across the Shorefield Holiday Parks. Located in Hurn Forest, the woodland is literally on your doorstep, so why not layer up and enjoy a fresh winter walk exploring the peaceful surroundings?

A great walk option is the Tall Trees Trail at Blackwater, Hampshire. It’s just a 30-minute drive from both parks where you can stand next to some of the tallest, most impressive trees in the UK.

Another winter wander within easy reaching distance of the parks is the Holmsley and New Forest Circular, a 20 minute drive away, near Christchurch. The route takes about 2.20hrs to complete, making it a brilliant morning activity to work up an appetite for lunch. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, then this is the walk for you.

Oakdene Escape Room

Treehouse Escape Room:

For something to entertain a group, there’s also the thrilling Treehouse Escape Room at Oakdene Forest Park, which is available to book until 30th November. It’s a great game to enjoy with 2-6 people, testing participants’ logical thinking and knowledge. Available as a 45 minute experience or just a 10 minute mini-game, the Escape Room is open to all - not just guests staying at our parks!
