Invasive Species on Park

Dear Ambassadors,

At Shorefield Holidays, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. As part of our ongoing commitment, we are required to monitor and manage any invasive or non-native species that may appear on our parks.

Please be aware of the following invasive plants that pose a threat to native biodiversity:

  • Japanese Knotweed – A fast-growing, clump-forming perennial with tall, dense stems that regenerate each year from deep, spreading underground rhizomes.
  • Himalayan Balsam – Known for thriving in low light, it outcompetes native vegetation by shading and eventually killing off other plant species. While sometimes found in gardens, it must be carefully contained to prevent it from spreading into the wild.
  • Giant Hogweed – Highly invasive and dangerous. Its sap can cause severe skin reactions, including blistering, long-lasting scars, and increased sensitivity to sunlight (photodermatitis).

If you spot any of these plants—or suspect the presence of another invasive species—please report it immediately to our Estates Manager or Warden. You can also email us at estates@shorefield.co.uk.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us protect our environment.

Best regards,
Dave Black
Head of Health, Safety and Estates
