Top eco-friendly activities in Dorset and the New Forest
We were delighted that Shorefield Country Park was recently awarded a Silver Accreditation with the New Forest Green Leaf Tourism Business Scheme, which is testimony to the team’s events in preserving our green surroundings!
Within the forests, on the beach and on park, guests can easily take part in fun-filled activities that don’t damage the flora, fauna or animals that inhabit Dorset and the New Forest. Here we have picked our top five choices for eco-friendly fun. As the saying goes - ‘Take only memories, leave only footprints’.
Walking
Walking is a simple pleasure and best enjoyed in this part of the country. Surrounding our parks are a wonderful selection of nature trails, all in full bloom during the summer months with luscious greenery as far as the eye can see! Why not meander through the Ancient Woodland Trail, weaving through the tall trees at Shorefield Country Park, or explore more magical woodland in and around Oakdene Forest Park and Forest Edge Holiday Park. There are so many routes to choose from - so whether you’re looking for coastal scenery or woodland views, there’s enough to keep your legs on the go throughout your stay.
E-bikes
If walking isn’t your cup of tea but you don’t want to miss out on some of these beautiful landscapes, we have you covered! Hiring a bike, or better still, an electric bike couldn’t be easier. Locals and local businesses want to keep the New Forest green as much as we do, so there are plenty of places to hire a cycle and reduce the amount of driving when people visit. We’ve listed a few local businesses to get you started:
- Milford-on-sea - Jaunt-e Bikes
- Brockenhurst - Cyclexpereince Bike hire
- Burley - New Forest Cycling
- Lyndhurst - The Woods Cycle
When in the New Forest you will have the pleasure of seeing nature in all it’s glory, including fields of wild flowers and the New Forest ponies grazing in their natural habitat.
Why not try a Brockenhurst Donkey Walk as a fun family friendly activity during your stay. Situated just one mile from Brockenhurst village, you will be able to walk your donkey friend through some of the woodland trails. Donkeys are quiet, comforting animals and will bring a smile to your face, helping you unwind. A great day out - especially to keep little ones entertained!
Watersports
If water sports is more your thing, you could head down to Milford-On-Sea and try paddle boarding, kayaking or even windsurfing! Head to The New Forest Paddle Sport Co who offer a range of activities, based in the beautiful coastal hamlet of Keyhaven.
Meanwhile on park…
With so much going on at our parks, you might not even feel the need to branch further afield in your car! Always keep an eye on our ‘What’s On’ page for the latest list of activities and entertainment for those who like to stay on the go, or need to entertain kids!
For those looking to really switch off and unwind during their Shorefield break, spend quality time soaking up your surroundings in a hot tub of one of our Superior Lodges, or head to our Reflections Day Spa for some serious pampering.
