New Forest Winter Breaks & Things to Do

Winter can feel like a complete standstill, with the chilly weather making us hibernate inside and choose comfort over exploration. That’s why as self-confessed New Forest experts we’ve put together our top activities!

Winter getaways – Now’s the time to get away to the New Forest with winter boasting discounted accommodation and packages throughout the park. Holidays aren’t just for summer and the New Forest is an ideal destination to explore on your weekend off! There’s no denying the wonder of a weekend away, a change of scenery and having things in your diary to look forward to, these are all key to boosting our mood and there’s really no better way to do this than getting your dose of fresh air on our British coastline.

Frosty winter walksGet the wellies and winter warmers out for an adventure surrounded by New Forest flora and fauna! Your gang will love spotting the ponies grazing, and there’s plenty of spots to let your pup roam lead-free. At Shorefield, we offer the best of both sea and forest on your doorstep and encourage our visitors to explore what’s right outside of our parks. All 7 of our parks are within easy reach of the beautiful beaches and the unique New Forest National Park with ancient, wild landscapes, so there’s plenty here to tempt you outside in these colder months.

Cosy pub lunchesSit back and relax after covering some serious miles on a New Forest walk at one of the many pubs the area has to offer. New Forest Marque is the company to look for when certifying that produce has been locally sourced!

Tourist time! – The New Forest has so many things to do, even in winter, with many places offering discounted tickets this time of year. Our top picks are the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Adventure Wonderland Park in Bournemouth and the New Forest Heritage Centre for an interesting history lesson on the National Park!

Get out on two wheels – Cycling is popular in the New Forest, and for a good reason too! There’s plenty of places that will provide cycle hire and cycle routes, or bring your own bike and explore your own way! You’ll see the forest from a completely different perspective in the colder months. If you are staying with us at Shorefield Country Park, why not check out Jaunt-E bikes, a local electric bike rental company who will deliver the bikes to your door. Check their website for exclusive offers and discounts for Shorefield guests.

Wildlife spotting – The New Forest is home to all kinds of wildlife throughout the year. The deer species are especially apparent against a frosty backdrop. Catching sight of the deer in the new forest can be tricky and is never a guarantee, but at Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary there is a purpose built viewing platform overlooking a meadow where herd of fallow deer regularly gather. However you’re pretty much guaranteed to spot a famous New Forest donkey or cow!
