Exxon Mobil Co2 Pipeline Update

Dear Shorefield Country Park Ambassadors,

As you may be aware, Exxon Mobil had plans to build a carbon dioxide pipeline, this pipeline would take carbon dioxide to a deep rock formation in the English Channel for safe storage - a process known as carbon capture and storage (CCS).The pipeline that would run from Fawley Oil Refinery near Southampton, out to sea, would have utilised routes across The New Forest and Isle of Wight, this project has seen a lot of opposition from residents of the New Forest and Isle of Wight and we are glad to say that the plans have now been scrapped.

As reported by the BBC, a spokesperson for the company said the decision was a result of the "continued lack of government policy certainty" but did add ‘’we are committed to reducing emissions from our operated assets and continue to evaluate a range of emission reductions solutions that can deliver meaningful CO2 emissions reductions.
