Shorefield Holiday Home FAQs

There are a lot of different options to consider when selecting your dream holiday home, and naturally the process raises many questions. Here at Shorefield Holidays Limited, we are experienced in assisting people through the entire buying process, and are more than happy to clear up any queries which you may have.

Below you will find answers to some of the questions we are most commonly asked.

Q. How long can we stay in our holiday home for?

A. Holiday homes are not for permanent residence and are designed for holiday use only. Owners at Shorefield Country Park, Oakdene Forest Park, Merley Court Holiday Park and Swanage Coastal Park can holiday for a maximum of 56 days during any one stay. Forest Edge Holiday Park allows 11 months of continuous use.


Q. Can I finance the purchase of my holiday home?

A. Many customers decide to spread the costs of purchasing their holiday home, and we have a variety of specialist finance providers that offer competitive loan rates in these cases, so that you can spread the costs between affordable monthly payments. However, a minimum of 20% of the total sales value will be required initially. New caravans can be financed for up to 10 years, with lodges going up to 15 years.

Q. Do holiday homes come with a warranty?

A. Yes; when it comes to brand new holiday homes, a warranty is always included. There is some variation between manufacturers, but you can expect to receive between 1 and 5 years warranty.


Q. When are the payments for site fees, rates and insurance due?

A. Site fees are due from the 1st of November each year. Alternative payment options are available, so please get in touch with the Sales Office for further details. Rates are fully paid in advance and are due by 1st April. Insurance policies are also paid in advance and are due by 1st July. Gas and electricity are metered and billed in November and May.


Q. How does the licence work?

A. On all new 12ft wide holiday homes which cost under £50,000, you will have a 15 year licence, whilst 12ft holiday homes costing over £50,000 are licenced for 20 Years. If you purchase a company pre-owned caravan, we will issue a licence period depending on its age and condition, typically they will range from 8 Years to 14 years. Our luxury lodges typically come with a 30 year licence, but is dependent on the size and specification of the lodge purchased.


Q. Is it possible to let my holiday home?

A. Yes; subletting your holiday home when you’re not using it can be a great way to earn extra income to offset your running costs. As a leading holiday operator, we invest in extensive national and online marketing campaigns, as well as working closely with tour operators such as Hoseasons. This ensures that we attract thousands of holidaymakers each year, many of whom will be looking to let out a property like yours.

Q. Can I upgrade my holiday home in the future?

A. You can choose to upgrade your holiday home at any time, with our experienced staff available on every park to help you make a decision that’s right for you. Any finance on your current holiday home will be settled, and a new finance agreement made for your new purchase. This process makes upgrading much more affordable and convenient.


Q. When are your parks open?

A. Our Parks are open as follows:

  • Shorefield Country Park is open from 10th February to 5th January
  • Oakdene Forest Park is open from 1st February to 1st January
  • Merley Court Holiday Park is open from 7th February to 7th January
  • Swanage Coastal Park is open from 1st March to 5th January
  • Forest Edge Holiday Park is open from 5th February to 5th January
