Six activities for water babies near Shorefield Holiday Parks
30th June 2017
One of the best things about staying with us is the chance it gives you to get into the water – in our pools, in the sea, or on some of our local rivers and lakes.
A Shorefield holiday is the ideal opportunity to reconnect with a favourite pursuit, master a new sporting skill or to try something completely different. So, here are the five best ways we know to get on or in the water during your Shorefield break.
1. Stand-up paddle boarding
Not as easy as it looks. But not as difficult, either! New Forest Paddle Sport Company (near our Shorefield Country Park and Lytton Lawn Camping & Touring Park) has a wide range of SUPs to suit every paddler from aged six upwards, from beginners to those who can expertly cruise the waves.
Could it be you, ripping through the waves like the chap from Hawaii 5-0? Maybe not at first. But if you fancy making a start at this elegant and environmentally-friendly spot, try Surf Steps in Bournemouth (near Boscombe Pier). They are the only Surfing GB Centre of Excellence based on the south coast and can sort you out with lessons and equipment hire and are a short drive from Forest Edge, Merley Court and Oakdene Forest Park.
3. Aqua zorbing, sea-scooters and snorkeling
Find out what it feels like to walk on water. Or whizz around underneath the water, just like James Bond! Or to float in water and just breathe. You can do all this with our range of GoActive+ activities at Oakdene Forest Park. Zorbing will see you in a giant, inflatable see-through ball which you roll across our Oakdene Pool. If you try a sea-scooter you’ll be able to feel the thrill of being pulled along by the tiniest of submarines. And snorkeling will see you learn the basics of this gentle activity.
What could be more fun than paddling your way up a private river, taking in the peace, the wildlife and the views from the water? Even if you’ve never paddled before, New Forest Activities, based in Beaulieu, not far from our Oakdene Forest, Forest Edge and Shorefield Country parks offers three-hour guided Kayaking Adventure along the only privately-owned estuary in the UK, suitable for those with no previous experience.
If you’ve never experienced life on the ocean wave then book up with Escape Yachting next time you’re on a Shorefield holiday. Based in the yachtie’s paradise of Lymington, the sailing home of mighty Olympian Sir Ben Ainslie, Escape Yachting organise luxury days out on a fully-crewed 50-foot yacht.
6. Of course, you can always stick to good old swimming (technically not on the water, but in!)
Either in the seas off the Hampshire and Dorset coasts – or in the pool at your Shorefield holiday park. Shorefield Country Park and Oakdene Forest Park (which you can also access when staying at Forest Edge and Lytton Lawn) have indoor and outdoor pools; Merley Court near Wimborne has a heated outdoor pool, and, for a fee, guests staying at our Swanage Coastal Park can use the facilities based in the park next door.
