Beach hut sells for £170,000
Published on 22 June 2012 by Simon Bransgrove
The popularity of the Christchurch Bay and New Forest area was confirmed recently when the most expensive beach hut in Britain was sold for a staggering £170,000 in just two days of going on the market. This is over £135,000 more than the luxury caravans on Shorefield Country Park at Milford on Sea.
The wooden beach hut is on an isolated spit with no running hot water or washing facilities and requires a 30 minute walk, a ride on a land-train or a short ferry trip to get there. Solar panels on the roof provide electricity for lighting and a 12v pump system supplies water from a tap. Although six people can sleep there, a local bylaw only allows overnight stays from March through to October.
Yet for only £34,995 and only 15 minutes along the coast, you can own a spacious holiday home at Shorefield Country Park, Milford on Sea. Their holiday homes are far larger than beach huts, and feature central heating, running water, en-suite facilities, car parking space and an 11 month licence. In addition, they are fully furnished with fridge, cooker, a proper bathroom, plus full family Leisure Club membership worth over £4000 per year. The beach is just 800yds away and the New Forest only 3 miles inland.
