Nature Centre
The Nature Centre at Shorefield Country Park, located just next to the outdoor swimming pool, opened its doors to members and guests in Easter 2011 and contains a wealth of information about all the wildlife to be found on our park and within the surrounding area. Not only are we lucky enough to have abundant animal life living amongst us but we are also blessed with plants and trees of all kinds, some of which are centuries old. Also on display are samples of the various trees alongside information about them and their uses. The park itself is a haven to a huge variety of wildlife including deer, badgers, foxes and many species of birds.
Nesting swan
We are committed conservationists and are proud to be doing our bit to help protect the British bumblebee, which is showing an alarming decline in numbers. If bee numbers continue to fall, there is a risk that our countryside could be destroyed as important plants die without pollination. Because a love of local wildlife and the surrounding natural world is central to what we do, we have a dedicated display on the Shorefield Bees that includes a hive and honey extractor, not to mention plenty of information about Solitary Bee Houses, which you could even try making for yourself when you get home. Our recycling procedures are also documented at the centre, and cover everything from the best ways to deal with garden waste to crushed concrete.
Shorefield Nature Centre
While at the Centre you will discover a wealth of information on the New Forest National Park as well as many must see places to visit. Local walks, some of which take in the nearby woodland walk and Milford-on-Sea pleasure grounds, are also prominently displayed. All of our exhibits are updated frequently to reflect the seasons and the ever-changing habitats on the park. When you are next at Shorefield Country Park, drop into our Nature Centre to discover what’s been seen and what’s changed. If you’re lucky enough, you could spot a badger, kingfisher, deer or even our very own resident peacock Percy for yourself.
The Nature Centre is open daily between 9am and 5pm.
